Office 2021 Support Ends Today. We Used It To Run Payroll.

Most business owners aren’t thinking about which version of Office is on the computer. They’re thinking about getting payroll done and keeping the day moving.
At Linehaul Solutions, we were using Excel in Office 2021 to run payroll until earlier this year. So this deadline feels pretty practical to me. Excel wasn’t some program sitting unused on a desktop. It was part of how we handled a real business task.
Microsoft Office 2021 support ends October 13, 2026. Word and Excel may keep working, but Microsoft says Office 2021 will no longer receive security fixes, bug fixes, or technical support after today. There’s no extension or Extended Security Updates option for this version.
If your business uses Office 2021, check the computers you rely on and make a plan to move to a supported version. In Word, open File, select Account, then choose About Word to see what version you have. Microsoft has instructions for checking your Office version.
This is a previously announced deadline taking effect today. It doesn’t mean every business needs to buy something. If you’re already using Microsoft 365, this Office 2021 deadline by itself doesn’t create a new purchase requirement.
A lot of small business work happens in tools we don’t think much about until we need them. We had Excel tied to payroll. You may have Office 2021 on a computer you still depend on. It’s worth checking.
